About Lanta Animal Welfare

Our Mission

At Lanta Animal Welfare, we believe passionately that we all have a responsibility to protect and care for the animals that share our world. Our mission is to relieve the suffering and pain of animals through rescue, rehabilitation, sterilization and care.

Our Vision

A world where all animals are treated with respect and compassion, where animal welfare is understood and practiced by all, and where no animal suffers unnecessarily.

Our Values

  • Compassion: We treat all animals with kindness and respect
  • Education: We believe in teaching communities about animal welfare
  • Sustainability: We work to create lasting change through sterilization programs
  • Transparency: We are open and honest about our work and finances
  • Community: We engage with local and international communities

Our History

Lanta Animal Welfare was founded in 2005 by Junie Kovacs, who was deeply affected by the suffering of street animals she witnessed while visiting Koh Lanta. What began as a small operation with just a few volunteers has grown into a comprehensive animal welfare center that has helped thousands of animals.

Our Work

Animal Rescue

Our rescue team responds to calls about injured or sick animals across Koh Lanta. We provide emergency medical care, rehabilitation, and when possible, find loving forever homes for these animals.

Sterilization Program

One of our primary goals is to reduce the number of unwanted animals through sterilization. Our clinic provides free sterilization services for street animals and subsidized services for owned animals.

Veterinary Care

Our veterinary clinic provides comprehensive care including:

  • Emergency treatment
  • Vaccinations
  • Parasite control
  • Surgery
  • Ongoing care for chronic conditions

Education and Outreach

We believe that education is key to creating lasting change. Our outreach programs include:

  • School visits to teach children about animal welfare
  • Community workshops on responsible pet ownership
  • Training for local residents on basic animal first aid

Our Team

Lanta Animal Welfare is powered by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers from around the world. Our team includes:

  • Veterinarians and vet nurses
  • Animal care specialists
